New Businesses in McCloud

Summary: 
Three new businesses have opened in McCloud: McCloud Outdoors & Gear Exchange, Evergreen Day Spa, and McCloud Hair Care. These exciting new businesses not only bring goods and services to our town, the owners are bringing new energy and entrepreneurial spirit to the business community.

Susan Brush at McCloud Hair Care is a hairstylist/artist. She offers her services Wednesday through Saturday 9 - 5 and welcomes walk-ins. Evening hair care is available by appointment (864-1639). Her studio is at 429 California Avenue.

McCloud Mushroom, Music & Wine Faire May 26 & 27

Summary: 
Annual street fair featuring mushroom vendors, educators, and food, as well as wine tasting and live music on May 26th and 27th.

The McCloud Mushroom, Music, and Wine Faire begins at 10 A.M. on Main Street McCloud. Booths feature mushroom vendors, wine tasting, special mushroom delicacies, cooking demonstrations, seminars and educational booths on mushroom harvesting, games and prizes. Live musical entertainment begins at 11:30 A.M. and lasts all day. Blues, Acoustic and Country Rock bands. Live Band & BBQ in the evening.

McCloud's 41st Annual Flea Market

Summary: 
Sunday, June 3, 2012 8 am - 4 pm is the scheduled time for the annual Flea Market, filling Main Street with vendors of antiques, collectibles, plants, food, toys, housewares, clothing, books, and arts & crafts.

McCloud Railroad Agrees to Sell/donate Railroad Right-of-way for Public Trail

Summary: 
The Shasta Land Trust announced Friday, March 30, that an agreement to purchase the railroad right-of-way between McCloud and Burney has been signed. This agreement will pave the way for the planning and development of 80 miles of rail-trail connecting the two communities and providing access to a number of nearby attractions. The trail will preserve an historic and scenic railroad corridor and protect the surrounding natural environment, aquatic wildlife, and habitat.

Shasta Land Trust (SLT), representing a coalition of Northern California nonprofit organizations including McCloud Local First Network, signed an agreement to purchase a railroad right-of-way between McCloud (in Siskiyou County) and Burney (in Shasta County), a property known as the McCloud Railway. The agreement, signed by SLT and the property’s owner, 4 Rails, Inc, will ultimately lead to establishment of a public “rail-trail” on the property and is an important milestone following many years of efforts by several local non-profit organizations and 4 Rails.

5th Annual Dog & Pony Show Parade

Summary: 
Thirty-five dog and/or pony-featuring groups were featured in this year's Dog and Pony Show Parade. Bright sunshine, hot cider, and a lively crowd made watching the parade a real treat!

The Great Exchange is now non-profit

Summary: 
The Great Exchange, now a non-profit organization, is looking for donations... and customers. Offering quality used clothing and locally-made crafts, the store will use proceeds to support sustainable community building.

McCloud's newest store, the Great Exchange, has converted to non-profit status. Angelina Cook, the Board's President, said that "the proceeds from the "thrifty shop" operations will be used to promote sustainable community building." Ms. Cook explained that "We are drawing upon a diverse base of local talents and assets to present a series of workshops designed to enhance local self-reliance and sustainable economy by increasing skills for self-sufficiency and natural resource stewardship to stimulate green job creation in the region."

Down town McCloud will be alive with vendors, musicians, and events when the Heritage Junction Museum again sponsors Heritage Days. The Melodrama depicting stories from McCloud's history is always the highlight of this celebration - you'll find it performed on the stage above the Museum.

The Mushroom Hunt Contest is sponsored by Mendocino Mushroom Co.. Eric Schramm will be giving free seminars about eh fungi. Vendor's booths open with specialty items & natural products.
